Nova Scotia Surf Sessions

Like skiing, surfers rely on storms.  The east coast of Canada has endured some of the most ruthless storms known to man, and the people there, like the buildings they live in, show the hearty character of a hardened lifestyle.

While hurricane Earl stirs the Atlantic thousands of kilometers away, the local Lawrencetown surf community just south of Halifax is waiting in the water, welcoming swell sets with paddling arms.  Though the sun beats down this week bringing 30 degree temperatures, soon Earl will be upon them, and the price of pleasure will have to be paid.

I had the opportunity to go filming there this week, and get to know some of the awesome characters who live out there.  The general amount of friendliness was astonishing.  While scoping waves from a strangers lawn, the owners would emerge and offer us coffee, water and snacks.  Fellow surfers would lite up barbeque's and pass out schooners from the local brewery for the midday heat.  I was joined by West coast boys Christian Moutinho and Noah Cohen, both legendary Canadian froth finders.  We were treated to some tasty waves during my 3 day stay, and though my trip was far too short, we got some nice material for the Sherpas new Surf film:  All.I.Sea.

Check some of the stills I shot between filming.  Damn that place is so stylish.  Thanks tons to the East Coast posse:  Niko, Jill, Ben, Dean, Zack, Scotty, Miles, Kyle, Ryan, Luke.... yeah I'm probably forgetting many of you... me bad wif names.  Anyways, thanks a lot fellas - hope to see you again soon!!!
