Located in the heart of the Coast Mountains in British Columbia lies one of the most remote and certainly most awesome operations in Canada, Bella Coola Heli Sports. Sherpas Cinema’s Dave Mossop and Eric Crosland went on a fourteen day mission to explore this spectacular area.
Boasting access to an insane amount of terrain, the mountains here seem offer more relief and more variety than your average coastal peak. "Like Alaska and the Alps rolled into one" says Crosland. The Sherpas and athletes, Kye Petersen, Callum Pettit and JP Auclair were blessed to stumble upon the biggest snowpack the area has had in 30 years, in some places reaching a whopping 8 metres. After a solid weather window, the two directors came back to the Sherpas’ headquarters in Whistler, BC with the “best Cineflex footage we have ever captured” says Mossop.
But not only the magnificent skiing and filming left a long lasting memory continues Crosland: “Getting to know the community of the Nuxalkmc was a very special experience and added a higher value to this trip ” First nations culture and spirit is present throughout the Valley of Bella Coola and takes visitors back in time as the history of the Valley dates back 10,000 years.
